I was a little overwhelmed by the Melbourne World Vegan Day celebrations yesterday at The Convent, and forgot to take pictures. I did manage to part with a lot of cash in a very short amount of time, and meet up with some faces familiar and new (it was really nice to meet you Tahn!). I had a good time chatting to people, but I was a little disappointed with the hot food that was on offer, and the amount stalls were charging for it. $8 for a pissy little plate of felafel and the most garlicky salad I've ever encountered was just not good enough. I'm glad I went though, mostly because I rode on my own from Coburb to Abbotsford on a really nice day. It reminded me how much I love riding and how little I actually do it.
Anyway, now that VeganMoFo is over, I thought I'd keep up the momentum and share with you this incredible, rich and satisfying Bolognese I made a few nights ago. TVP and green lentils make up the 'meat', while carrots, zucchini and silverbeet give it some vitamins. A very generous splash of red wine helped to make it very rich. I topped it off with sprinkle of 'parmasalmond' (ground almonds, nooch, salt and sesame seeds).
What did you think of World Vegan Day?

I was also really disappointed by the savouries at WVD (not enough variety + expensive + FROZEN PIES). But it was still fun! And the convent is nice.
I really enjoyed WVD because I met lovely people & I ate very, very tasty cheesecake, chocolate torte & ice cream so I had a good day :) Although I seem to have missed meeting you!
Yesterday would have been great weather for a ride from coburg to abbotsford but isn't it so often the way that food made at home is better than that you can buy - I love your plate and I want to try the parmasalmond
thanks johanna, I got it at savers :)
Glad you enjoyed the day vicki, I would have really loved to have met you but I got there too late waiting for my clothes to dry (the roof leaked the night before but only on my wardrobe...) next time for sure
I enjoyed WVD cause I've got to meet the lovely bloggers Tahn and Vicki, also my friends from Veganfitness.net.
Yay(s): Annike is selling lots of hard-to-found vegan cookbook; Melbourne Vegan Strength stall was mobbed; Tart n' Round; Naked Treat.
Nay(s): Can't get the pies; No Enlighten Cuisine, no CocoLoco, No Las Vegan; the music.
It's a shame about the Vic WVD :(
But that bolognese looks great. I might make some minus the tvp and red wine. I love that you added in lots of veggies!
And I had a great day at the Cruelty Free Festival, there was plenty of food & it was a gorgeous day.
